Silver Alert for 67-year-old FW man cancelled

Update:William Elnor York who was reported missing in the story below has been found in good condition at a friend's home in Granbury, police said

He is with investigators and he's expected to be brought back to Fort Worth. York will be released to his caretaker.

 

FORT WORTH _ A Silver Alert has been issued for a 67-year-old Fort Worth man suffering numerous medical conditions who was last seen Monday on Withers Street. York
Police identified the man as William Elnor York.
York was last seen in the 1400 block of Withers Street.
He has mild intellectual disabilities, police say, and he is bipolar who needs to take insulin.
York is described as about 6-feet-1, 220 pounds with partial gray hair and hazel eyes. He was last seen wearing a brown button down shirt, blue jeans and black tennis shoes with Velcro straps.
Anyone with information should call 911 or Fort Worth police at 817-335-4222.

Circumstances: The decedent was transported from 2261 Hemphill Street in Fort Worth to the hospital on Oct. 14, 1989, with what proved to be a fatal stab wound. While conscious, the man identified himself as Juan Rios.

Age: 25-45

Description: Hispanic male, 5-foot-11, 190-210 pounds, mildly obese with curly black hair one to three inches in length, brown eyes, black mustache and several missing teeth.

Tattoos: "J", "N" and possibly "F" on the inside left forearm and a small, faint, ill-defined tattoo on the right forearm.

Authorities believe the man may have been inside a dumpster on Magnolia Street when he was picked up with the trash. His death was ruled an accident caused by blunt force injuries received in a trash compactor.

Police believe he'd been shot and dumped in a hole. His feet had been bound with duct tape. His death possibly occurred between January and June of that year.

Age: 35-55       

Description: Anglo or Hispanic male with short dark hair

Tarrant ME looks for help in identifying eight men who died years ago

The eight men died between 1986 and 2009.

At least three are homicide victims. One died in a wreck. Another was accidentally crushed in a trash compactor after apparently falling asleep inside a garbage bin.

All are believed to be Hispanic men whose identities continue to elude authorities. This week, the Tarrant County medical examiner’s office released pictures of the men’s faces and/or tattoos in hopes that someone will be able to identify the men, all now buried in pauper's graves.

Damaged cable causes power outage in Tarrant County

FORT WORTH — Approximately 5,400 customers lost power during rush hour in north Tarrant County Thursday night, an Oncor official said.

Arielle Kaplan, an Oncor spokeswoman, said a damaged cable led to the 5:30 p.m. outage that included the Watauga area. By 7 p.m., that number had been reduced to 3,600.

"Right now our priority is to get power restored as quickly and safely as possible," Kaplan said at 7 p.m.

Former Birdville educator gets life in prison for sexual contact with students

A former educational assistant with the Birdville school district was sentenced to life without parole Thursday for fondling two students in a computer lab, according to the Tarrant County District James Carroll Glawson (1) Attorney's office. 

James Carroll Glawson, 60,was found guilty of continuous sexual assault of children under 14, which is punishable by 25 years to life in prison, a new release said.

Evidence showed that during the 2009-2010 school year Glawson fondled two students who helped him clean the computer lab at Foster Village Elementary School in North Richland Hills, said office spokeswoman Melody McDonald in a press release. 
Glawson lured the students to the lab with the promise that they could play video games, the release said. 

Court testimony showed that Glawson also "played Santa Claus and visited schools at Christmas," the release said.

The jury deliberated for one hour and 15 minutes before assessing the maximum sentence.

Arlington gunbattle ends with suspect in custody

ARLINGTON _ A man was in custody Sunday in an Arlington Jail, accused of firing at a police officer early Saturday after the suspect crashed his vehicle into a patrol car.
The officer returned fire, but no one was injured.
Police arrested the man after a brief foot pursuit that ended on the roof of a public storage business.
Police identified the man as Miguel Contreras. He was in jail in lieu of $501,000 bail.
Contreras faces a charge of attempted capital murder of an officer and evading arrest, according to jail records. Contreras also is wanted by immigration officials.
The incident began about 2 a.m. Saturday when an officer spotted a man firing a weapon into a business park in the 2200 block of Cooper Street. The man spotted the officer and drove away from the scene.
At some point, the man struck the officer’s car during the pursuit, bailed out and fired at the officer. The officer returned fire.
A foot pursuit ensued, but the man was later caught by officers.

Gunman opened fire at Arlington apartment pool, one injured

ARLINGTON _  Police continued their search Sunday for a gunman who fired multiple shots into the pool area of an apartment complex, hitting one man in the neck.
The shot grazed the victim and he is expected to survive, police said.
Police responded to a call of a shooting at about 6:30 p.m. Saturday in the 700 block of Washington Drive.
Witnesses told police that someone drove to the complex and fired the shots as he drove near the pool area.
Investigators believe the gunman knew the victim and others around the pool.

Woman killed, another critically injured in stabbing at Fort Worth mobile home park

FORT WORTH — Police were investigating a stabbing that left one woman dead and another injured Monday night.

The incident occurred shortly before 6 p.m. at a mobile home park in the 6200 block of Ltjg Barnett Road.

Sgt. Pedro Criado, a police spokesman, said two women were stabbed by a suspect. One woman died at the scene and the other was taken to an area hospital in critical condition.

"No suspect in custody right now," Criado said Monday evening.

Rabid deer reported at Parker County golf course

WEATHERFORD _ Authorities issued an alert to Parker County residents Wednesday about a rabid deer that was found last week at Sugar Tree Golf Course.
The buck was discovered by a resident last week at the golf course and displayed symptoms of rabies, according to a news release by the Parker County Sheriff’s Department.
The deer was euthanized and sent to state officials for tests.
Officials received results Tuesday that the buck had tested positive for rabies.
The deer was described as friendly and he would allow residents and guests of the golf course to pet and hand feed him, officials said. He was described as a spike deer with damage to his right antler.
Anyone who may have been in contact with the deer, should contact the Parker County Sheriff’s Department at 817-594-8845 or the state health department office in Abilene at 325-795-5857.

Man severely beaten with hammer as he slept on his couch

FORT WORTH _ A Fort Worth man was in custody Thursday accused of severely beating a sleeping friend with a hammer and taking two cell phones.
Police identified the suspect as Charles A. Austin, 41, who was in the Mansfield Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail.
The 48-year-old victim who police did not identify was taken to a local hospital, but his condition was unavailable.
The attack occurred about 2:50 a.m. Wednesday in the 2100 block of Handley Ave.
The victim told police that he was asleep on his couch when he was beaten over his head with the tool.
Austin was arrested and faces a charge of aggravated robbery.

Injuries reported at Hurricane Harbor in Arlington

ARLINGTON – Arlington Memorial Hospital was treating an undetermined number of people following an incident at Six Flags Hurricane Harbor on Thursday night, officials said.

Amusement park officials did not respond to requests for information.

However, a woman at the hospital who identified herself as an aunt of a patient, said she was told there had been a pileup at the park.

Sgt. Chris Cook, an Arlington police spokesman, was aware of an incident at the park, but said police were not called to the scene and did not have details.

Park spokeswoman Sharon Parker was unavailable for comment, as were fire department officials.

Hospital personnel, including the night supervisor and the emergency room supervisor, said they were busy treating patients from Hurricane Harbor, but declined to give details.

A hospital spokesperson was not available for comment.

Ex-Bear, Cowboy receiver Hurd arrested in San Antonio for violating bond

  Former Dallas Cowboys and Chicago Bears receiver Sam Hurd, who is awaiting trial on federal drug trafficking charges, was arrested Thursday afternoon in San Antonio after authorities say he violated conditions of his bond by testing positive for marijuana.SamHurd

Hurd, 27, was arrested at a YMCA without incident by Lone Star Task Force officers who had discovered that Hurd was there visiting a family member.

Hurd was indicted in December on two counts involving conspiracy and possession with the intent to distribute cocaine. He was released on $100,000 bond pending his trial, which is set for October.

Mansfield SWAT remove 3-year-old from home

SWAT and crisis negotiation teams responded to an incident in Mansfield early Saturday that led to police removing a 3-year-old from the home and a taking a 24-year-old man into custody.

Mansfield police were called to the 2900 block of Rocky Creek Drive at 2:20 a.m. after a person called dispatch and said a man had pointed a hand gun at another person and threatened him.

Upon arrival, officers attempted to contact the man but he refused to come out of the house and speak with the officers.

SWAT and crisis negotiation teams were called to help but the man still refused to communicate so SWAT entered the home, removed the child and took the man into custody without further incident.

Police have identified the man as Angel Rivera of Mansfield.

Rivera was taken to John Peter Smith Hospital for psychological evaluation.
